ABOUT ME:
Liz Huston, [pronounced hyoo-stuhn] lives and works in Venice, California. She is self taught in the photographic arts and graphic design, and has worked as a commercial and fine art photographer for almost two decades. After producing traditional photography for the duration of her career, she discovered photo illustration, instantly falling in love with the expanded palette with which to tell new visual stories. Her photo illustrations are created through a lengthy mixed media layering process; she blends antique photographs from her extensive personal collection with images amassed from thousands of her own stock photographs (lovingly referred to as "firewood"). Huston creates an esoteric narrative that hints at a logic just beyond a viewer’s reach.
"I create photomontages to reveal strange new worlds, and it is the unfolding of these infinite potentials that is the most alluring for me. These worlds are both familiar and strange, as they exist in the stirrings of my imagination as well as in my memory. I am fascinated with mythology, time, collective memory, nostalgia, love and loss, healing and hope; and it is these themes which quite often settle themselves into my work."
